The name Chloe means to bloom and grow, as explained to me by my mother. As I aged this comment stuck with me, going through periods of personal struggles emotionally and physically, plants have recently become a way to cope. The idea of caring for a living thing, nurturing it, watching it grow is healing. My latest work has been partly inspired by the concept of growth. The way I see it, people are like plants, they are individualized and grow at their own pace. Each plant needs special care to thrive. They have attributes that can compare to human characteristics. These characteristics can be anything to physical appearance, defense mechanisms, or growth habits. This concept interests me, as it reminds me that we relate to other living things and all go through a cycle of self-growth. I work closely with the themes of identity, the human condition, connections between people and the relation of people with the natural world.

    For my recent series, “Plant Portraits” I have been taking photographs of people close to me in my life. Then I researched plants and pair them with people that have similar characteristics and personalities. My process begins by choosing someone close to me. I then pull out aspects of their personality and research plants that have similar aspects or characteristics.

    "Plant Hearts" and "Body, Blooming, Blue" are both series highlighting the organic beauty and nature between plants, the human form and organs.
