All About Me
Hello! My name is Chloe Matchett. I am eagerly inquiring about current and upcoming art teacher positions. Being a recent graduate from Kutztown University’s Art Education program has prepared me for many different opportunities. Some skills include a knowledge of art making techniques and practices, the understanding of the past and present art world, written and oral communication and most importantly, the ability to inspire and nurture creativity in others.I take inspiration from the word nurture.
My mother explained to me the name Chloe means to bloom and grow. As I aged, this comment stuck with me. The idea of caring for a living thing, nurturing it, and watching it grow is healing. I take these feelings and use them in my way of teaching. People are like plants. They are individualized and grow at their own pace. Each plant needs individualized care to thrive. This is important when working with children. I like to encourage and nudge students towards healthy artistic and personal growth. My philosophy is based upon the foundation of trust, respect, kindness, and growth. All of these things are important to help form a well-rounded student. With kindness comes respect, and with respect comes trust, which provides a safe space for growth both artistically and personally.I’ve spent the last two years substituting in the Hempfield School District as well as a long term art substitute position at Hanover Middle School from Aug-Jan of 2024/2025. I am not short on teaching experience. I have had many other opportunities to be in a classroom setting, such as a before and after school program for children whose parents work. At this program, we plan and present activities and assist with homework.
From a young age, I have been helping and mentoring youth, through both volunteer work and working positions. One of my proudest accomplishments is being on the planning committee of a nonprofit camp for type one diabetic youth called Keystone Diabetes Kids Camp. I was a camper and have now progressed to being a counselor every summer. On top of that, I attend multiple planning meetings throughout the year where we talk about fundraising, teaching diabetes management/advancements, and camp program planning. As I move forward, I am eager for more opportunities to teach, as well as learn from my experiences. A strength of mine is working well with others. I also enjoy collaborating and including other educational disciplines within my teaching. Along with this I make sure to show the diversity within the art world and include a wide array of artists and mediums within my lesson plans. These mediums include: Painting, Printmaking Ceramics, Fibers, Drawing, Sculpture,Digital Photography, Collage/Mixed Media Metals.
